- Comper Aircraft Co Ltd was founded in 1929, by former Royal Air Force pilot Nicholas Comper, at Hooton Park aerodrome near Ellesmere Port, Cheshire. Company directors included his brother Adrian Comper, colleague Flt Lt J Bernard Allen and George Dawson, the owner of Hooton Park aerodrome, who provided the initial finance. The company's first aircraft was the rebuilt Cranwell Light Aeroplane, designed by Nick Comper, designated the Comper Swift. The Swift, a sporting monoplane, was followed by a joint venture prototype, the Cierva C25. In 1933 the company moved to Heston aerodrome, Hounslow, and despite producing new aircraft designs it achieved few sales. The company got into financial difficulties and was refinanced and renamed Heston Aircraft Co Ltd in 1934.
