- British Klemm Aeroplane Co was established in Hanworth, Middlesex, in 1933 by the British dealer for the German Klemm L25 aircraft, Major Edward Stephen, to produce a version of the popular L25 under licence. Stephen managed the company and was joined by George Handasyde, from Desoutter Aircraft Co, as works manager, along with Harold Boultbee, from Civilian Aircraft Co, as chief designer and Edmund Hordern as test pilot. The prototype of the licensed version, Swallow, was built in 1933 and the company's own first aircraft design was the Eagle, a monoplane similar to the Klemm L32, designed by Handasyde. The company was acquired by a new company formed to take it over, British Aircraft Manufacturing Co Ltd, in 1935.
